Health for All

Diseases of poverty: These include not only malaria and tuberculosis, but also chronic conditions such as high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease. New medicines and vaccines are only effective if they reach the people who need them most. That's why Swiss TPH strengthens healthcare systems worldwide – so that no one is left behind.

Through research and concrete projects and programmes, we ensure that rural communities in Africa, Asia, and Latin America have access to therapies, insurance, and qualified care. At the same time, we support local professionals in making their systems more efficient and deploying resources where they will have the greatest impact.

In this way, we create the foundation for a fairer, healthier world – step by step, for everyone.

‘A successful fight against the dengue virus must begin with the water supply.’

Early in the morning, the port of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania resembles a hornet’s nest. Colourful containers are loaded onto cargo ships from heavy metal bridges, as if stacking Lego bricks. Forklift trucks drive crates from all over the world criss-crossing the site. A deafening noise emanates from a factory hall. The ‘port of peace’, as Dar es Salaam translates, is an important centre for global goods flows.

The arduous path to elimination

Through decades of persistent work, the researchers around Stefanie Knopp are trying to show ways in which the extraordinary life cycle of parasitic worms can be interrupted.

On the trail of the pesticide exosome

Comprehensive epidemiological studies on the effects of pesticides on human health and ecosystems are scarce, especially in Africa. Agricultural epidemiologist Samuel Fuhrimann is laying the groundwork for effective pesticide regulations and safe use in the field. His aim is to improve the long-term well-being of farming families – in Africa as well as in Switzerland.
